Manyi John Ravics

My name is Manyi John, and I am the Director of the Savannah Rose Rescue Home in eastern Uganda. Every day I have the privilege of caring for children who have faced many of life’s hardships. My own childhood was shaped by poverty, limited opportunities, and seeing children around me struggle with hunger, illness, and the absence of stable family support. Those experiences planted a dream in my heart to create a place where children could grow up surrounded by love, hope, and encouragement.

When Working Angels became part of our lives, I could not have imagined how deeply it would influence both the children and me. Everything about it was new for the children. During our first reflections, many of them were quiet and simply listened with curiosity. They were learning how to reflect, ask thoughtful questions, sing together, and share what was in their hearts. Week by week, they became more comfortable participating, eagerly raising their hands, sharing their thoughts, and encouraging one another. What began as a weekly lesson gradually became something they truly looked forward to. Today, it has become part of who we are.

One of the most beautiful changes I have witnessed is in the children’s hearts. They are becoming more compassionate, more patient, and more willing to help one another. I have seen shy children find the confidence to speak, older children naturally care for younger ones, and many of them learn to settle disagreements with kindness instead of anger. They are discovering that serving others, telling the truth, forgiving, working hard, and showing love are signs of real strength.
