II. The Religious Guardians

There was a wise woman named Marguerite Porete who lived in France in the thirteenth century. She was an author and Christian Beguine—a holy woman. Marguerite wrote that, "In the stillness of the heart truth reveals itself while true beauty arises when the soul surrenders to love." And then she wrote, "Goodness is the essence of the soul united with God. As the soul draws nearer, it radiates love and compassion into the world."
